Costa Cruises – Costa Tropicale

Originally built in 1982 as the Carnival Tropicale, Costa Tropicale entered service for the line in 2001 after undergoing a $25 million refurbishment. As her name implies, she is richly coloured, with a fountain of crystal and gorgeous Carrara marble setting the mood in the lobby. Since her refurbishment she looks remarkably like the Costa Romantica, and if you weren't aware of her size, you could imagine yourself on the Romantica.

The ship is dedicated to music, the rhythmic ambience of the tropics. Her Brazilian specialty restaurant and European charm come together to create a really lovely, romantic ship. Sculpture, paintings, hangings and handmade crafts make the interior colourful and interesting, and the ship has focal points of brilliant colour and spiralling lines of light and water. White gloved attendants lead passengers to their stateroom upon arrival, with the conjunction of European tradition and elegance working beautifully with South American fire and panache.

Cabins:
Costa Tropicale has 12 mini suites with balconies, about 400 square feet in all, with hand-woven bedspreads, terry-cloth robes and whirlpool baths, all in lively, rich colours, and warm woods. The 196 ocean-view standard staterooms run about 180 square feet, displaying sizeable windows, and the 109 inside standard rooms are the same size. For families they offer 12 ocean view and 10 inside triples, and 106 ocean view and 69 inside quads.

Each stateroom has a safe, television, radio and hair dryer, and each has both 110 and 220 electrical connections. Guests who reserve mini suites have a V.I.P. check-in, with fresh flowers, fruit daily and bathtubs.
