The Caribbean

The Caribbean is a region of the Americas consisting of the Caribbean Sea, its islands most of which enclose the sea, and the surrounding coasts.

The Caribbean region is located southeast of North America, east of Central America, and to the north and west of South America.

Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the area comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays.

As a destination, The Caribbean region is one of the top holiday spots in the World with frequently returning visitors from every corner of the globe.

Caribbean Cruises are of course one of the most popular cruise destinations, backed up by the large number of Cruise lines who have a Caribbean Cruise itinerary.

Caribbean cruises are primarily divided into three categories - Southern Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean Western Caribbean.

Southern Caribbean Cruises

The Southern Caribbean Cruise area takes in many islands, including Aruba and Antigua, both of which are famous for their beautiful white sandy beaches and local charm, whereas Martinique, St Lucia and Guadeloupe offer amazing scenery, varying from exotic rainforests and botanical gardens to volcanoes.

Curacao is a fabulous destination for snorkelling and scuba-diving, but even more so is sibling Bonaire St. Barts. Not forgetting Dominica and Grenada, which both offer a unique experience with secluded coves and spice markets galore.

Western Caribbean Cruises

Traditional ports of call for Western Caribbean Cruises area include Belize, home to the ancient Mayan civilisation, and Grand Cayman where you can walk the magnificent Seven Mile Beach.

Jamaica is also another favourite you may get to visit the area of Ocho Rios or Montego Bay depending on your cruise line, but remember not to miss the scenic ride to one of Jamaica's premier attraction, Dunns River Falls.

Eastern Caribbean Cruises

The Eastern Caribbean Cruise region encompasses the British and American Virgin Islands, including Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, which is a small tropical island far away from everyday stress.

There is also St Thomas UVI, the capital of the US Virgin Islands, which is volcanic and cloaked in green with a spine of mountains running from east to west.

Puerto Rico is another destination you may visit, not forgetting the 2 nation/1 island St Maarten and St Martin, and the Bahamas.

There are plenty of well organised activities, from duty-free shopping and water sports to historic, desolated beaches and hip restaurants.

There is such an array of activities and sights for you to experience on a Caribbean Cruise that no matter which one you choose, you are sure to have a great time.
